Facts & Analysis:
The United States has made progress on this commitment but the Agenda for Development process is still not complete.

• The US has been a strong defender of sustainable development in the current negotiations.
  
• The US had several statements affirming that it did not desire any additional conferences or reviews of policy until the recommendations of the last 6 are more greatly analysed and implemented.
  
• The US has resisted clauses that link the UN to the Bretton Woods institutions.
  
• The Group did not have an Agenda for Development ready for adoption by 4 April 1997,which was the last day of the only other session scheduled for the Group during the 51st General Assembly.
